Note: these features are “working”, they may not make it into the v1 product.

This week I have been working on a couple of different mini-projects based on our upcoming release of AIR 2.5 for Android. The engineering team are pushing out features every week, and I have to say I’m very very impressed with their efforts. We are arguably now at feature parity with the desktop Flash Platform, which is precisely the goal of the Open Screen Project.

In the 5/7 build we have added Camera, Microphone, StageWebView and NativeExtensions features to the beta. Of course AIR comes with [...]

Yes.. we want the possibility to allow or not each permission for each apps. Of course !!!

android guyMobile security company SMobile has looked into the potential privacy and security issues in more than 48,000 apps in the Android Market. The company’s findings are alarming for Android owners, since approximately 20% of Android apps request permission to access private or sensitive information.

SMobile’s findings shed new light on Apple’s tight grip over its own App Store, where apps must undergo a rigorous review process. By contrast, the Android market is open, [...]

EyeSight Allows You To Control Your Phone Via Hand Gestures

While voice activation is a pretty useful feature, many folks have had frustrating experiences when the technology isn’t implemented well. So what alternatives are there? Well, EyeSight’s Natural User Interface might be a possible solution, as it uses the cell phone’s front camera to detect hand motions, allowing developers to write applications to support these gestures. An example would see users playing music, changing tracks, browsing photos or even fiddling with your GPS navigation software all just by waving your hand in front of the cell phone as if you’re performing a magic [...]

One of the cooler, subtle things that Google showed off at Google I/O was its new Android Cloud to Device Messaging service that’s a part of Android 2.2. The “don’t call it Push Notifications” service allows you to automatically send links from your computer to your Android device.

Everyone is talking about the ability to push Android apps (and eventually music/media) to your devices — and rightly so. But also useful is this link push ability. For example, if you looking at a page on your computer than you want to take on the go (something I do all the time), you can now [...]
